Summer Organizing Fellowship with 350 Canada
The 350 Canada team is looking for individuals in several priority ridings in ON, BC, and AB to join us for a 4 month climate organizing fellowship, from May-August 2024.

Campaign:
We are bracing ourselves for yet another summer of record breaking forest fires and extreme heat waves that threaten our health, homes, and communities. People across Canada are struggling to pay our bills and afford basic necessities, while the fossil fuel industry is making record profits off the destruction of our planet. We must build enough power to kick Big Oil to the curb, and fight for a safe, affordable future that leaves no one behind.
This summer, the 350 Canada team is launching Heat Pumps for All, a campaign demanding a universal heat pump program and a new publicly-owned entity to produce, distribute, and install these heat pumps in homes across the country. We will build and mobilize strong grassroots support, and push federal politicians to invest in climate solutions that materially improve our lives, both now and in the future.
We have designed resources, trainings, and infrastructure so that anyone across the country can run the Heat Pumps For All campaign in their own riding. We are additionally investing in priority geographies by hiring organizers for 4-month summer fellowships. The fellowship program intends to kickstart critical conversations about bold action on climate and affordability in strategic regions ahead of the 2025 federal election.
Responsibilities:

- Fellowship participation: Joining a call every two weeks with the fellowship cohort and updating the campaign team about progress/ challenges/ learnings (including through a 1:1 check-in every two weeks)
- Petition: Starting, administering, and circulating a petition for your assigned riding (text and platform will be provided)
- Research: Mapping out your riding’s key constituencies, candidates, and electoral issues
- Team building: Recruiting a small team of volunteers and engaging supporters to take on greater involvement in the campaign
- Event planning: Hosting 1-3 ‘community resilience events’ in your assigned riding, bringing your neighbours together to talk about keeping themselves and each other safe through the summer of climate impacts and bridging to the bigger fight for a Universal Heat Pump program (toolkit and talking points will be provided)
- Canvassing: Coordinating community canvasses in your assigned riding to engage your neighbours, gather petition signatures, and promote the resilience events/Day of Action (toolkit and materials will be provided)
- August Day of Action: Organize a Day of Action at your MP’s office in August (timing TBD, but to be coordinated nationally), urging them to champion this life-saving federal policy before they head back to Parliament in September (toolkit, trainings, and materials will be provided)
Requirements:
- Living in or near one of the target ridings, and able to spend significant time there throughout the summer:
- ON: Timmins–James Bay; Algoma–Manitoulin–Kapuskasing
- BC: Port Moody–Coquitlam; North Island–Powell River; Cowichan–Malahat–Langford; Courtenay–Alberni; Nanaimo–Ladysmith; Skeena–Bulkley Valley; South Central Okanagan–Similkameen–Nicola; South South Okanagan–West Kootenay
- AB: Edmonton–Griesbach
- Due to the rural nature of many of these ridings, a valid driver’s license and regular access to a vehicle, OR reliable public transportation across the riding is required
- Staff or volunteer experience in community organizing (includes campus organizing)
- Familiarity with and/or excitement to learn about digital organizing tools, event planning, canvassing, and volunteer engagement
- Interest in and knowledge about climate justice, affordability, and building grassroots power
Hours and Compensation:
- This is a 10 hour/week contract, at a rate of $25/hour, for 4 months (Summer 2024)
- Most of these hours will be quite flexible and you should assume some variance in hours week to week
- We can accommodate other obligations, but occasional evening / weekend work may be required
- The program will run May 6-Aug 30 but we can be flexible about start and end date
- Organizers will be reimbursed for approved expenses, such as printing materials, space rentals, action supplies, mileage within the riding, and travel costs to/from the riding (as negotiated).
